So tell me this - what is with the last two governor generals being former reporters? Is it a pre-requisite for the position? I mean, the Governor-General acts as our de-facto Head of State representing the Queen.

Why has it become typical to choose a TV reporter for this position?

Let’s examine the facts.

Adrienne Clarkson
She is well known from her work in broadcasting, having hosted and produced several shows for the CBC (1965-1982); these include Take 30, Adrienne at Large, The Fifth Estate, Adrienne Clarkson’s Summer Festival, and Adrienne Clarkson Presents.

Michaëlle Jean
She has hosted and produced news and documentary programming for television on both the English and French services of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. She was most recently the host of CBC Newsworld’s The Passionate Eye and RDI’s Grands Reportages, as well as an occasional anchor of Radio-Canada’s Le Téléjournal.

Wait a second… Hrmm…. The CBC….. Is there a connection?

Romeo Leblanc
Worked for the CBC for 10 years before he came to Ottawa as a Liberal press agent

Holy crap! Could the CBC secretly be a proving ground for Governor General? An Al-Qaeda-ish training organization?

I’ll keep you up to date on this hot development as I dig deeper.

Was hanging out playing some Rummy with Olivia and her mom and all of a sudden there was a huge ruckus coming from downtown. Grabbed the camera and headed off - All of a sudden we came to this giant parade of people waving the Acadian Flag and marching and screaming VIVE L’ACADIE!!!

We followed and around city hall there was a HUGE rally with everyone cheering and screaming and singing french songs. They were really ramped up - some people looked almost frantic running around.

Apparently it was ‘Acadian Days’ in Fredericton and it was a flag raising ceremony. Lots of hotshots there with Lieutenant Governor Chiasson leading the pack. Andy Scott even spoke in English to cheers.

Olivia immediately noticed a pack of protestors off to the side carrying signs like “IS NEW BRUNSWICK QUEBEC’S NEW BRANCH OFFICE?” and “DON’T LET THE TAIL WAG THE DOG ANY LONGER. WHY DO ACADIANS HAVE SPECIAL STATUS?”. They were from the Anglo Society of New Brunswick.

Ran over and struck up a convo with him:

Jake:
Mind if I snap a picture?

Protestor:
Not at all. Let me tell you that I’m not against you people. I’m just protesting that our flag isn’t allowed to be flown while the Acadian one is.

Jake:
That’s fair - but I’m not Acadian, sir.

Protestor:
Ahh, ok. Did you know I was set up on an assault charge today?

Jake:
Oh, that’s not good.

And then snapped a few shots. There was a cop there watching him holding a video camera, so I imagine they were expecting something to shake down.

After the official speeches we went home. Another day.

The Milling Crowd Anglo Protestor O!

I don’t even know how to introduce this article:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20050811.wxsecurity11/BNStory/National/

It’s hard to believe that people seem so obsesssed with stopping ‘terrorism’. The doc was absolutely right: we are living in a Kingdom of Fear. People willing to trade everything we’ve gained in the last 50 years for some sort of fictious piece of mind that we’re safe.

Diplomacy at gunpoint. Trade with a boot on the throat. Canada used to have massive credibility. We didn’t get involved in foolish fights. We kept the peace.

We’re losing it all. We’re sliding off our respected pedastal.

It’s real trouble here now that we’ve started going down the ’security’ road . The final destination can really only be some pseudo police state, and it won’t be long now before we adopt the same “Dissent = Traitor” attitude that the US government is drilling into american heads every day. It’s working.

It’s not I don’t like Americans. I love them. They’re beautiful, kind, generous people. I see very little difference between a common US citizen and myself. I’m sure they dance to the Beach Boys on a Thursday morning just like I do, smile when they wake up on a lazy Saturday, or hold the door for a senior citizen at a restaurant.

Unfortunately the governments they’ve been electing lately have really made things a mess.

The next step will be when this nutbar Stephen Harper gets elected into a majority government in the impending election. He’ll pack it full of ‘good ole boys’ and drive the country straight into oblivion.

It’s coming.

We will be come what Orwell outlined in 1984.

Say I’m paranoid. Say I’m insane, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Reuters is reporting that Bono is disgusted by Canada’s lack of increased monetary commitment to the Live 8 cause.

Here’s a clue Bono : dumping money into nations does not help them. Warlords line their pockets with the money and the people see very little. There are MUCH more constructive ways to help a country get back on it’s feet. If they don’t know how to manage what money they have, how is increasing their coffers going to help at all?

It’s just a hands off way to say you’re helping the unfortunate. There are a lot more constructive ways we can help these people without handing them a wad of cash.

He also added:

He’s very difficult to deal with because he won’t agree to things that he doesn’t believe he can deliver, although that is very frustrating and annoying and infuriating

What would you rather Martin do Bono? Agree to things that he doesn’t think he can deliver and then back out at the last minute when people are counting on him?
