Lord of the Kabookie Dance
Seven P.M. and I’m sitting around watching Lou Dobbs tonight on CNN. Heavy stuff. More babble for the masses telling me how Homeland Security will help my Big Mac cost less and my car run on cleaner fuel. I guess I really fooled them - I don’t own a car. Wahoo.
A CNN reporter named ‘Lisa’ suggested that Scott McLellan’s recent press conference to address Homeland Security may be a ‘Kabookie Dance’. It’s really hard to get a head full of the phlegm laden flu like mine around a statement like that. Ho ho - up two channels to Star Trek - the mindless drivel that I need. Data has discovered a new robotic life form named ‘exobots’. Very stimulating.
Ho ho! onward to CTV. Corner Gas mentioned the Hardy Boys and Participaction in a single episode. TV doesn’t get any better than that.
I remember I LOVED the Hardy Boys when I was younger.
On a more serious note, Seems that us Canadians have a new supreme court justice. Check out the judgements page for recent decisions.
I have a mountain of unprocessed photos I’ve yet to wade through from the trip south. I finished these up.
Did the pano with The Panorama Factory. I cannot reccommend it enough.
8:30 - Almost time for my Neo-Citran. I think I’ll couple it with a doctor reccomended Mrs. Dunsters donut.

Unfound Amazement from Untold Lands : Part II
Cousin Aaron Writes in:
I loved your first blog entry on “Unfound Amazement from Untold Lands”. I have to admit that one of my greatest joys in traveling south of the border is watching people in airports.
For example, did you know that every college-aged girl in the U.S. is required to wear an over-sized sweater with the name of her university/college on the front while on an airplane? Must be left over from the 9/11 reform.
Also, anyone under the age of 21 must, and I repeat MUST, travel in flip-flops if their destination is hotter than their home, regardless of the time of year. It doesn’t matter if it’s 20 degrees below in Albany, little Susie MUST wear $8 Old Navy flip-flops on her trip to visit grandma in Phoenix.
This obsession probably stems from the hours that Dad and I (and you, quite often) used to wait at malls in Bangor for Mom, prompting games of “Who can find the ugliest person in this mall”.
I don’t mind admitting this E-Mail made my day. Especially the part about 9/11 reform.

The Rockford Files - Not Just Another day of A&E
It is a pretty well known fact that I don’t remember a lot about most things I do every day. In fact, I’d consider my memory to be poor at best - possibly even abysmal. But, one thing I do remember very clearly is how my sister and I used to watch the Rockford Files on A&E. We’d settle in after school and on summer holidays, make some food, and enjoy that day’s episode.
I know, I know, it is probably a strange thing to remember - And even stranger to choose to relay it to you via this Blog. But hold on, dear reader, for the reason for my random observation will become clear in the very next sentence:
I purchased Season 1 of The Rockford Files on DVD.
The DVD set includes a recent interview with James Garner about the show. One of the really interesting things he mentions is that he figured the show was popular because people love so support an ‘anti-hero’ character in drama. A character who is a ‘hero’ with good intentions, but their inner flaws cause them more trouble than they deserve. A semi-applicable example of this type of character in a current show is ‘George’ from Grey’s Anatomy.
Anyhow Back on Track : Garner is right. A lot of people DO love that type of character. And I’m one of them.
Recall this; most of the time it is in our nature to fondly remember experiences in our past as being better than they actually were. Today, I’ve come to the following conclusion - this is NOT the case with the Rockford Files. I’ve watched 4 episodes since yesterday and the show is as good or better than I remember. As good as gold.
Jim Rockford - A basically decent everyday fellow trying to earn a living - who always seems to ’step in it’.
Perhaps that should have been the title of the show. Although, it would be pretty hard to fit that moniker in the TV guide listings.
Finally, if there is a point to this post, it is this: If you liked the Rockford Files, buy the DVDs. You’ll be happy you did.

Trip to the Foxwoods Poker Classic - A World Poker Tour Event
I’m putting together a trip to Foxwoods on to the Foxwoods New England Poker Classic on April 6-10 for anyone that is interested.
I have done an estimate - Transportation to Connecticut with a 3 night stay - ~$250/person (based on 4 people coming). You’d need to take that Friday off work/etc, and we could get in to watch the televised main event final table ($10k buyin) on Sunday.
Let me know ASAP. I’m sure there would be lots of smaller tourneys and cash games running all weekend there as well.
