I was reading a report the other day how the entry-level shredders do basically nothing to protect against ID theft/etc. Anyone with patience or time could piece together exactly what you’ve intended to destroy.
This is why I’m looking at the Royal CIA 12x as my next unit. Smallest crosscut pieces in a sub $1000 shredder and only about $120 bucks. Here, a guy gives it a real hardcore working over and compares to another model:

A standard 8.5×11″ sheet is 216mm x 28mm which means 72×28=2016 pieces. Lot better than the 17 my regular wal-mart one is giving me.
And I’ll admit - I am definately a security dork like him.
