A few news snippits that I find interesting and/or important, both from the globe:

Arar’s allegations are made up, consular official insists

Maher Arar’s civil suit alleging the Canadian government mishandled his file while he was detained for a year in Syria is a “big lie” that may be motivated by money

And..

Talks to resume in CBC lockout

In the first sign of a thaw in the labour dispute between CBC management and the Canadian Media Guild, both sides have agreed to begin what they are describing as preliminary talks in Toronto this morning.

You know, life is quite strange. I know, I know - ‘of course it is‘.

But I REALLY have been thinking about it. Twisting my brain around hopelessly looking for something real and concrete to come out of it to explain life. Some sort of grand unifying theory to really make everything I experience make sense.

I mean, it’s usually hard to justify being laissez-faire in your life. For instance, Pat decided a year ago that he was headed to Australia for a while. No specific reason, he just wanted to do it. Was talking to him on MSN and he’s having a fantastic time.

At first I thought it was a odd idea. But now, I really respect what he’s done. One of the few people I know that have had the guts just to cut loose and say ‘this is something I should be doing’. I certainly haven’t the minerals to do so yet.

And recently, my father died his hair green. LIME green. I didn’t understand that either for a minute, but his reasoning explained it all - ‘Why not?’. And you know what? He’s right, why not indeed?

I think I’m slowly beginning to realize that we all should be doing more ‘why not’ as much as we can, but by the time that some people REALLY figure that out in their lives it’s too late. I’m sure most never get it. I certainly haven’t decided if I believe my own ranting yet - still on the fence. Hopefully with all this evidence around me I’ll come around soon.

Then again, I’m pretty much off my rocker and babbling nonsense most of the time anyway. You should probably ignore what I’m saying 99% of the time. Especially now.

Been ages since I posted. I had a draft prepped last Wednesday but I don’t feel the world is ready for the information I would impart on it…. just yet.

This hurricane craziness in the gulf looks INSANE. I’ve always said that despite some errant cold weather, we really have it good up here. The fact that New Orleans is below sea level really must put a hurting on the cleanup as well.

After conversing with my cousin Aaron about summer camp memories this weekend I have decided to impart a rather disturbing story to you, my loyal readers.

The story starts at an unnamed property on the Bellisle bay. Our hero Jacob is almost certainly under the age of 12 and he is halfway through a two week summer camp that he attends without fail every summer. He really enjoys the camp, and this year he has been placed in a cabin with 14 other pre-pubescent boys, AND an ‘at-risk’ youth we will call Tyrell Waldorf.

Tyrell has been entertaining his cabinmates all summer with his stories of drug use, coiitus, and general crime and nonsense. And of course, because everyone in the cabin was young and innocent, he was well loved by most - and his stories were met with critical acclaim by all….. Except for Richard. This is because Richard was the ‘pick-on’ kid for Tyrell.

Now my memory is sketchy about the summer (like most other summers), but I do remember this:

One night while sleeping I was awoken by Richard snoring. This wasn’t an uncommon occurence, but apparently Tyrell had enough of it that night. After stating loudly ‘watch this’, he walked over to Richard’s lower bunk, pulled down his shorts, and urinated on Richard’s face and open mouth.

Richard awoke screaming and I really don’t recall what happened next. I don’t even think Tyrell got kicked out of camp.

That must have messed up Richard for a long time, really emotionally scarred him.

This is the truth. I couldn’t make this up. Just ask Aaron.

Was hanging out playing some Rummy with Olivia and her mom and all of a sudden there was a huge ruckus coming from downtown. Grabbed the camera and headed off - All of a sudden we came to this giant parade of people waving the Acadian Flag and marching and screaming VIVE L’ACADIE!!!

We followed and around city hall there was a HUGE rally with everyone cheering and screaming and singing french songs. They were really ramped up - some people looked almost frantic running around.

Apparently it was ‘Acadian Days’ in Fredericton and it was a flag raising ceremony. Lots of hotshots there with Lieutenant Governor Chiasson leading the pack. Andy Scott even spoke in English to cheers.

Olivia immediately noticed a pack of protestors off to the side carrying signs like “IS NEW BRUNSWICK QUEBEC’S NEW BRANCH OFFICE?” and “DON’T LET THE TAIL WAG THE DOG ANY LONGER. WHY DO ACADIANS HAVE SPECIAL STATUS?”. They were from the Anglo Society of New Brunswick.

Ran over and struck up a convo with him:

Jake:
Mind if I snap a picture?

Protestor:
Not at all. Let me tell you that I’m not against you people. I’m just protesting that our flag isn’t allowed to be flown while the Acadian one is.

Jake:
That’s fair - but I’m not Acadian, sir.

Protestor:
Ahh, ok. Did you know I was set up on an assault charge today?

Jake:
Oh, that’s not good.

And then snapped a few shots. There was a cop there watching him holding a video camera, so I imagine they were expecting something to shake down.

After the official speeches we went home. Another day.
