Coming Soon - Cooking With Jake
A new series featured in this blog will be cooking with Jake. It’s aim is to lay out sequential easy to follow methods of cooking for men with the emphasis on homemade from-scratch dishes that are both tasty and impressive. As well I will compare costs and nutrition with the conventional methods.
As we go through the changes of our time it’s easy to purchase packaged foods which are laden with preservatives and flavouring agents. Although tasty they do not compare to from-scratch recipes.
Men do not have to be challenged by a kitchen. You CAN produce fantastic meals with a little effort.
First up is homemade fettucini with a tomato based sauce.
The Evil World of Video Games and Grand Theft Auto
CNN is Reporting that Wal-Mart pulled GTA : San Andreas from it’s shelves last week.
Wal-Mart spokesperson Karen Burk said the company is in the process of pulling the game from its shelves nationwide, which it expects to complete by end of day Thursday. This is primarily due to the ‘unlockable’ sex scenes that are in the game. The only way to view them is by downloading a software patch which allows you to ‘hack’ into the hidden scenes. They are not available in the game by default. They also do not depict any nudity, unless another ‘hack’ is applied.
I really feel that the whole media frenzy around this game really gets to me after a while. Just constant hammering at something I feel should be an non-issue.
Meanwhile, looking at some things that ACTUALLY matter to me but generally go unreported :
US congress has passed an amendment to the country’s criminal code veiling an obvious anti-pornography agenda in ‘child protection’ laws.
In the name of ‘Freedom’, the Patriot Act has long enabled government officials to bypass the courts on items such as wiretaps or arrests.
A man was murdered by London police that had nothing to do with the subway bombings.
A man’s vehicle was shot 96 times by LA police who thought he was someone else. He got hit 4 times and survived (Can’t even find a link to this one anymore).
Yet, despite all this, the one issue that continues to be all over the news lately is a foolish video game? Come on Jack Cafferty, get real.
This weekend went to Halifax for Dyker’s wedding. Really great time - good ceremony and great meal at Alderney Landing and it was really good to see Adam and Erin again. Stayed in Jennie’s apartment Friday and drove back Saturday after the supper and got in around midnight.
Had to rush around an hour before the wedding and get a shirt that actually fit me.
Played some craps at the casino Friday night and won $11.50! Despite Olivia and Jennie’s insistence that I play a ‘field’ bet every throw , which I did twice and actually won despite the odds:
Field bet: This is a one time bet that the next roll will be a 2,3,4,9,10,11, or 12. The 3,4,9,10, and 11 pay even money and the 2 and 12 pay 2-1. In some casinos, largely confined to downtown Las Vegas, the 12 will pay 3-1. Some casinos pay on 5 instead of the 9. If the 12 pays 2-1 the house edge is 5.56%, if the 12 pays 3-1 the house edge is 2.78%. On the surface this seems like a great bet because 7 numbers win and only 4 lose. However the 4 that lose are much more likely to be rolled.
The poker tables were out of control. Huge lines to play the 5/10 and the 15/30 table was full. WAY too much money for me, too bad they can’t afford to pay dealers with the rake at any lower limits.
